SCAPE 2008 Christchurch Biennial

New Zealand's only international biennial exhibiting contemporary art in public space. Featuring more than 25 artists from 15 countries and presenting the most innovative and bold public art being made today; this year's biennial dares visitors to take a fresh look at Christchurch and the spaces within it. Visit over the opening weekend (19 - 21 Sep) and enjoy a range of lectures, artist talks, panel discussions and performances. Held in Christchurch’s central city public spaces and supported through a range of partnerships SCAPE is fast becoming renowned for showcasing leading contemporary artists.

The Trust’s vision for the SCAPE Biennials is to engage local, national and international audiences with outstanding new artworks in public space through partnerships with industry. Matching artist with industry, material, intellectual property and resources enables the production of new innovative artworks, attracting and involving communities in the exploration of contemporary art. The organisation’s inherent partnership model also includes private and public galleries, the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu and other members of Christchurch’s Cultural Precinct.

SCAPE 2008, the 5th Biennial presented by Art & Industry features 25 artists from 15 countries.
